After the holidays, we all get busy with our lives. Back to work, to the proverbial grind. After all, its a few months until spring and planting and camping, right?
Well, how would you rate your quality of living? Really, on a daily basis. The Air Quality, the Noise, the Scenery, your daily level of Contentment? Getting weekend outings is sometimes the only way to stay sane... and remember, Moab is AMAZING in the winter.
I recently went to my favorite ice skating rink... Kens Lake, the absolute best outdoor skating rink I have ever been to! We are lucky enough to enjoy the ice for 3-6 weeks a year, hockey or figure skating, and WOW, the view of the LaSal Mountains, outstanding, I can never go back to an indoor rink. Its crazy making going round and round in tiny little circles in the indoor setting, does not compare to the expansive feel of the lake.
People in Moab often travel in the winter, to visit family or former homes. (since many are seasonal workers). But they all come home, with stories of crowds, endless shopping for nothing, traffic, weather, and being forced to be indoors. They are glad to come home realizing there is no place like MOAB.
We, here in Moab are so blessed to have blue skies, clear air, a dusting of snow for icing on the usual red rock views, Best of All.... no crowds! I love hiking in Moab in the Winter, so quiet, its a veritable haven for birds, deer, and other wildlife normally scared away by crowds. The trails are deserted. There is a peacefulness that permeates the air. Daytime hiking temperatures are between 40-60 degrees, jacket weather. Perfect for a little activity. Sure there is some ice in some places, but most trails and sandstone is easily traversed.
